Malaysia Vs Man Utd

I did not have the opportunity to watch this game but from the reports, we can see that Malaysians can play some football against one of the best club in the world. I also noticed that the crowd was enormous. Some said the attendance were more than 80 000 in the forth largest stadium in the world (Bukit Jalil).

I still remember in 1990, when our national team took on the English team at Stadium Merdeka. At that time they are having Gary Lineker and John Barnes on their side. Not to forget David Platt from Aston Villa. A lot of talks and gossips took place on how the English goalkeeper would occupy his time during the game....some even suggested him to bring along a book to read if he feels bored and if the opponent could not even reached his penalty box! Surprisingly the score ended at 4-2 and the 2goal was scored by a Sabahan lethal striker Matlan Marjan. I was very proud at that time as part of my wishful thinking materialized..:-)

This time around we have Amri Yahyah proving that sometime Malaysians can play some football again. Yeah, we lost. But this should just not stop here. We should have back the believed that one day we could also winning games at international tournaments.

Last but not least, I would like to post here a quote from Mr. Bora Milutinovic, a coach who helped so many countries qualify for their first world cup tournament. He said that "one of the factors that brought success to the national team is how the people have "passion" in their football. I could not agree more......
